Gallery Doesn't Publish

On my test Photogallery blog [1], where I'm trying to use Asset Gallery as well, I can add photos to the asset gallery but they simply don't publish. MT is seeing the custom field as empty and so skipping the asset gallery section altogether. Viewing the source of the published page, the asset gallery sections are missing. Not sure why, doesn't make sense. There are clearly photos attached to the entries when viewed from the MT dashboard, but MT doesn't see them.

Oh, I'm running MT 4.261 and AG 1.2.2

    I am not sure I have enough data to go on here, but here is what I would check:

    • double check the tag name you associated with the custom field corresponds to the one you are using in your templates.
    • confirm there are no other custom fields that declare that tag name

    Questions:

    • do you see the photos in your edit entry screen? do you see anything when you upload them?
    • do you see photos getting registered as assets under manage assets?
    • are the photos actually making it to the disk?
    • can you confirm any or all of the above?

    • I double checked the tag name, it's the same as my Sandbox blog (same installation) where the gallery does publish.

    • "no other custom fields that declare that tag name" - Since the Asset Gallery Slideshow template is a global one, I am using the same tag name on each blog. I have to, right?

    • Photos are in the entry screen

    • There is no "Manage - Assets" in the photgallery blog, but I do see them under system overview - manage - assets

    • Photos are making it to disk

    Sounds like it may be that I'm using the same tag name for two blogs on one system. How do I implement AG on two blogs on the same system without doing that?

    You can use the same custom field on multiple blogs, that should not be a problem as I have a client doing exactly that. It also sounds like the plugin is working properly with regards to upload.

    Let me suggest this - go to the Manage Assets screen on any other blog (a non-photogallery blog), then switch to the PhotoGallery blog using the blog switcher/pull-down. That is a backdoor to the Manage Assets screen.

    But what I suspect is a problem with your templates. Can you attach your template code?

    I can see the assets in the PG manage assets screen, accessing it like you suggested. So they are there.

    I've attached my entry template.

    Thanks

    Ok - more questions. The following code:

                                         <mt:if tag="EntrySlideshowAssetCount" gt="0">
                                         <div id="slideshow" class="entry-content more">
                                             <$mt:include module="Asset Gallery Slideshow"$>
                                         </div><!-- slideshow -->
                                         </mt:if>

    Does it output the <div id="slideshow"> element or does EntrySlideshowAssetCount equal zero?

    It seems that EntrySlideshowAssetCount equals zero as none of the Asset Gallery template code surrounded by MT:if statements is getting published. This is the entry with the gallery in it:

    http://www.salguod.net/photo_sandbox/2010-naias/2010-buick-regal-s/

    And none of the AG code is getting published. You can see in the head there is nothing past <!-- Added for Asset Gallery --> and in the body there is nothing between <!-- Asset gallery start --> and <!-- Asset gallery end -->. There are photos on the entry screen, however.

    Any other ideas here? I had expected that maybe Photo Gallery and Asset Gallery may not play nice together, but this doesn't seem to be related to a conflict with the plugins.

    I add all the styling suggestions from the other thread, which I didn't expect to help, and it didn't.

    Another thing I noticed. Thinking that it may for a republish of the Asset Gallery, I changed the title and description on one of the photos and saved it. The title and description were not saved. Same is true of my other test blog.

    Great. That sounds like a bug that will need to be fixed. Ok. This ticket is getting long. Can you re-summarize where we are with this integration so we can take a fresh look at trying to get it working?

    The situation remains as it was when i submitted the ticket:

    On my test Photogallery blog [1], where I'm trying to use Asset Gallery as well, I can add photos to the asset gallery but they simply don't publish. MT is seeing the custom field as empty and so skipping the asset gallery section altogether. Viewing the source of the published page, the asset gallery sections are missing. Oh, I'm running MT 4.261 and AG 1.2.2

    What we've done thus far:

    • I've double checked the tag name, I'm not getting any errors that the tag is incorrect and it matches the template code. It's the same tag name as my Mid Century 2.0 blog where the gallery is working fine
    • There are photos visible in the entry editing screen.
    • The AG assets are visible in the manage assets screen (though it reports that they haven't been used)
    • The photos are making it to disk
    • It appears as though MT is not seeing that there are any photos in the sideshow as none of the AG template code is being published, indicating that MT sees EntrySlideshowAssetCount as = zero.
    • I am not able to save any title or description information. Initially it was on bothe blogs where i'm trying AG, but since updating the other to Mid Century 2.0, it seems to be working there. Still doesn't work on the Photogallery blog.

    I have noticed that the path to the photos on disk is full of gibberish. In the custom field settings I have set the path to be <site root>/%-c/%-b/ which should be <site root>/category/entry-basename/. Take a look at this path for one of the assets:

    http://www.salguod.net/photo_sandbox/2010-naias/2010-buick-regal-s/...

    I'm not sure where the /aDUJk5a/CwLhdc6/7zJ9tjY/Ehf3A/ is coming from. Those directories exist on disk and each image in the AG is in it's own gibberish set of directories.

    We may have several issues intermingled here, but I'm not sure what's contributing to what, so I'm throwing it all out there. :-D

    Thanks for your help. I'm open to giving you access to MT if you'd like and you think that'll help.

    Hey Byrne, I'm curious if this is still on your radar. If not, fine, I understand, I'd just like to know. I tried a new post with an Asset Gallery just for giggles with the same results.

    I think that being able to combine PG with AG would be a very versatile gallery blog, but that's just me. I understand that paying gigs come first.

    Hi Doug. Please accept our apologies for not responding until now. I'm going through the system looking for straggler posts like this one and wanted to know if this issue is still relevant for you. If so, please let me know so I can bump it up on our radar.

    Once again, sorry to have dropped the ball. We aim to do better in the future.

    Honestly, no, not any more. It was never resolved, but I've pretty much
    given up on MT / Melody at this point, not that I'm that active with my
    blog anyway. I plan on migrating it to Wordpress sometime in the near
    future, when I get some time to figure out how best to do so.
    Unfortunately, all the MT -> WP info out there seems to be pretty old. I
    guess most folks switched eons ago.

    It just seems that MT isn't a good choice for a casual user like me, the
    community support isn't there and it seems more tailored to bigger sites
    these days or to the Japanese market. Besides, my work and church are both
    launching WP blogs / sites, so having some WP knowledge will be of
    benefit. It's sad to me because I always liked MT and found it fairly easy
    to use. Hopefully WP will be as well.

    Thanks for checking in.**
